2013 Goals

As the year comes to a close I'm reflecting on 2012 and looking ahead to 2013. Growing this blog, opening an Etsy shop, and traveling to New York City have truly made 2012 a year to remember. I'm excited for what 2013 has in store and I'm looking forward to accomplishing some of these goals.

Tasty Tuesday: State & Lake

If you're looking for a great lunch spot after an afternoon shopping down State St. look no further than State & Lake located in theWit Hotel. I absolutely loved the Veggie Hipster sandwich with grilled butternut squash, shitake mushrooms, and an apricot-hazelnut spread on focaccia bread. I was impressed by the presentation of the food and the professional service during the lunch time rush. This restaurant would also be a perfect happy hour spot to meet up with friends after work or to grab a drink before seeing a show at the Chicago Theater.

What I'm Reading Now: Drops Like Stars

I recently picked up Rob Bell's book Drops Like Stars to gain some insight into the complex relationship of suffering and creativity. I know this concept sounds a little deep, but in light of what's going on around us right now I really needed this to gain some perspective. When I look back on my life some of the most significant moments are not defined around things that went according to my plan but around things that fell apart. This book was helped me to understand that sometimes suffering can open new doors or cause us to look at things in a new light.

Tasty Tuesday: Do-Rite Donuts

Forget about cupcakes and try out the latest trend of amazing donuts popping up around the city. While I was at the Dose Market last weekend I passed by the Do-Rite Donuts stand and just couldn't pass them up. Do-Rite Donuts are located in the Loop and offer and wide assortment of delicious donuts such as Cinnamon Crunch, S'more, Candied Maple Bacon and the Old Fashioned.

What I'm Reading Now: Olive Kitteridge

I finally finished Gone Girl last week and wanted to let you know it's probably my favorite read of the year. This book will keep you on your toes until the end and leave you wanting to discuss the twisted ending (this is a perfect book club choice).

I just started Olive Kitteridge over the weekend after reading such great reviews. The book includes thirteen small stories centered in a small town in Maine that all seem to connect and tell a larger story. So far I've really enjoyed each of the characters, and I'm looking forward to making some connections through each story.
