My Top 5 Blogging Tips

I've recently had a few people ask me for advice on starting a blog so I thought I would share a few tips with you. After 5 years with Project Soiree I've definitely learned a lot along the way. Read on for my top 5 blogging tips for anyone starting a blog.

1. Be you
Yes, there are a ton of bloggers out there but you have your own voice so use it. If you write about what you love and stay true to yourself you'll find it so much more rewarding. Starting a blog and maintaining a blog isn't easy (sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear) but keeping your blog focused on what you love will help your readers stay engaged and motivate you to continue writing.

2. Don't be shy
Is there a brand you're dying to work with or a blogger you would love to collaborate with? Don't think twice and just click that send button. I know it's slightly scary to reach out but even if they say no at least you can say you tried. Take those chances and don't second guess yourself.

3. Reach out to other bloggers in your area
One of the best parts of blogging is the community. Research bloggers in your area or join a local blogger network (hello Windy City Blogger Collective) to make new friends and connections. These relationships can help you grow your blog and can also be a great resource for inspiration.

4. Be consistent
I understand that posting 5 days a week might be a little daunting (trust me I would know). You don't have to post everyday but try to be consistent with posting once a week or 3 days a week. Give your readers that excuse to come back to your blog and become a loyal reader. Posting on a consistent basis gives your readers something to look forward to.

5. Stay passionate
If you're not passionate about what you're blogging about just stop. I know that sounds a little harsh but honestly if you don't love what you're doing it will start to become very apparent to your readers. Like I mentioned before blogging isn't easy, but if you're passionate about what you post it will be more rewarding.

  1. Excellent tips! Especially #5! I'm struggling with that right now and my husband is like "why don't you write anyway?" I told him it wouldn't be any good and people would notice. It's better to take a short break and get your mind back on track rather than crank out filler.
