Tasty Tuesday: Piccolo Sogno

Don't get me wrong I love city life and being surrounded by skyscrapers but sometimes it's nice to have a little escape from the hustle and bustle which is why I'm completely smitten with Piccolo Sogno. Located in Chicago's West Loop, Piccolo Sogno (which means "Little Dream" in Italian) offers a little escape from the city with a picturesque patio that makes you feel like you're actually in Italy. Not only was the patio a highlight but the food and service was like a little dream come true.

Piccolo Sogno's menu features fresh and seasonal Italian cuisine with an impressive Italian wine list. I should first mention that the bread basket filled with homemade focaccia, sourdough and bread sticks are seriously amazing. Dip the bread in their own custom olive oil and balsamic vinegar and be prepared to ask for more bread.

We couldn't stop talking about the special of the evening which was a seasonal antipasti plate filled with Italian favorites. The roasted beets, grilled eggplant and roasted tomatoes were incredible.

Piccolo Sogno features homemade pasta so of course we had to try the Spaghetti Neri "Frutti Di Mare" which included string cut black spaghetti, mussels, clams, shrimp, calamari, San Marzano tomatoes and red pepper flakes.

And last (but certainly not least) for dessert we enjoyed the hazelnut lava cake with hazelnut gelato. I'm still dreaming about this cake...
