What I'm Reading Now: A Girl & Her Food

Today I'm thrilled to introduce you to Kat Levitt from A Girl & Her Food. Kat is an amazing chef and knows all the best restaurants in Chicago. I love following her food adventures throughout the city on Instagram because she's always at the hottest Chicago restaurants and eating the most amazing food. Check out A Girl and Her Food for some tasty recipes and reviews of Chicago's best restaurants and be prepared to be hungry.

Get to know Kat:

1. What are you currently reading?
I just got my hands on my friend Charles Blackstone's new debut novel "Vintage Attraction." It's a story about his love, travel, food and wine with a Sommelier and popular TV host, "Izzy." I'm intrigued to find out if Izzy's character is based on Alpana Singh, his wife of six years? I can't wait to find out...

2. Favorite recipe or restaurant?
Tough question. I love to stay at home and cook, but at heart I'm a city girl and I like to take advantage of the food culture and scene in Chicago's diverse neighborhoods. I have many favorites, but if I had to chose my last meal in Chicago it be Avec. Everything on their rotating menu is amazing. However, you can usually find me at Big Star since I live around the corner; it's very dangerous! My bio picture was taken there one day as I was enjoying one of the world's best marriages...tacos and tequila.

3. What's your favorite thing about blogging?
I am not a food critic, chef, or professional photographer. I don't call myself a "foodie." I'm just a girl who is a self-taught home cook who dines out in Chicago's best restaurants. I have traveled the world, which has shaped my palate and given me the perspective to know when I am somewhere truly great. I was raised in Chicago so I know my city and it's my heart. Having a blog provides me with a great forum to share my knowledge and experiences with the rest of the world. A Girl & Her Food has allowed me to become great friends with some of Chicago's top chefs participate in supporting local charities, and meet so many wonderful new people.

4. Five things on your wish list?
  1. Animal rescue is very important to me and I especially have a soft spot for black cats. I recently pulled 7 black kittens from "death row" at a high kill shelter in Southern Illinois, and named them after players on the Chicago "Black" Hawks (I am a huge Hawks fan!) I am currently fostering them and would love to find them their forever homes. Please spread the word.
  2. If you think Carrie Bradshaw had a shoe addiction then you haven't seen my closet! At 5'9" I really need to invest in more kitten heels so I am not towering over everyone in my 4-inch heels. I'm hoping Santa and Hanukah Harry will bring me Valentino's rock stud shoes for Christmukah.
  3. I enjoy vintage shopping. When I am in Paris I spend the same amount of time in antique and resale shops as eating! I have been looking for a Vintage Hermes Tray for my coffee table or bar cart.
  4. One day I dream of having a custom designed kitchen. The kitchen is the heart of my house and everything is based around the activities in it. I admire a local kitchen designer, Mick DeGiulio, and hope one day to work with him to create my dream workspace. He as a stunning showroom in the Merchandise Mart, check it out!
  5. When I'm not in Chicago I spend a lot of time in the mountains soaking up the beautiful scenery and excitement. Naturally I like to ski...Yep, I shred the pow. I dream of heli-skiing in the Alaskan Chugach mountain range with Points North Heli. I know Justin Bieber skied with them last winter so if Bieber can do it, I can do it!
5. Favorite quote?
"Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always."

xoxo
