What I'm Reading Now: The Kitchen House

With yesterday being a gross rainy day in Chicago it was the perfect excuse to curl up on the couch with a good book and a cup of hot chocolate. After reading the first few chapters of The Kitchen House I had a really difficult time setting it down without trying to quickly read another chapter just to see what happens next.

The story is set in the early 1800's and centers on Lavinia who was orphaned while onboard ship from Ireland with her family. She ends up living on a tobacco plantation where she must live and work with the slaves in the kitchen house who ultimately become her family. Lavinia finds herself straddeling two extremely different worlds in the choices she makes and her beliefs. I can't wait to find out how this story ends (chances are I'll finish it tonight).
