Weekly Pick: United Run for the Zoo

Take a run through the Lincoln Park Zoo this Sunday for the United Run for the Zoo. This race is one of Chicago's oldest running events and probably the most entertaining since you actually run past the animals. I'll be running the 10k so if you're in Chicago stop by and cheer me on!

Tasty Tuesday: Dinotto

Now that it's officially summer it's time to scope out all the best patio spots in the city. So if you're looking for some amazing Italian food and one of the best outdoor patios in Old Town head on over to Dinotto. This restaurant is cute and cozy (which is exactly how an Italian restaurant should be) and the food and wine menu offer something for everyone. I'll definitely be back to this patio before the end of the summer!

Weekly Pick: Rock the Sidewalk with EXPRESS

Celebrate the long weekend on Friday with an outdoor fashion show from EXPRESS in Millennium Park from 5-6PM. EXPRESS will feature their Fall 2012 line along with an Instaprint Photo Booth and special guest Lisa D'Amato (from America's Next Top Model All-Stars).  Keep your eyes open on Michigan Ave. for the EXPRESS truck handing out cool treats during the afternoon!

Tasty Tuesday: Salted Brown Butter Crispy Treats

I found this amazing recipe on Cupcakes & Cashmere for Salted Brown Butter Crispy Treats from Smitten Kitchen. I was a little skeptical at first because I love the classic Rice Krispie treats but these were a huge hit. The brown butter gives them a nutty caramel taste, and the sea salt produces the perfect sweet/salty flavor. This recipe is a keeper.

Tasty Tuesday: Evans' Easy Pizza Sauce

My go-to weekly meal is a quick homemade pizza using Trader Joe's whole wheat pita bread. But I'm always buying canned pizza sauce that just doesn't have the right consistency or bold tomato flavor that I love. Luckily my sister is quite the cook so she came up with this amazing recipe for an easy pizza sauce that has my whole family hooked.

Evans' Easy Pizza Sauce

Makes - 4 servings

Prep - 5 minutes

- 8 oz can of tomato sauce

- 6 oz can of tomato paste

- 1 tsp salt

- 1 tsp hot sauce (more or less depending on personal taste)

- 1/2 tsp Italian herbs 

You can pick up the tomato sauce and tomato paste at Aldi where each can runs about .50-.70 cents. So the best part is you can make this whole recipe in 5 minutes for less than $1.50!
