Fab 5: Ways to Celebrate the Royal Wedding

The royal wedding is just one day away! I'm sure you're all going to wake up at 4AM (or maybe earlier) to catch the big festivities, and most importantly to see Kate's wedding dress. I plan on enjoying some English Breakfast Tea or a Buck's Fizz while eating scones with my mom and sister. Just in case you need some ideas for celebrating the big day here are my fab 5 picks:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

1. In celebration for the big day Butter London created a special nail polish color appropriately named "No More Waity, Katie."
2. You can find this adorable celebration garland on Etsy to add a creative touch to your royal wedding party.
3. Toast the new couple with a Castle Rock beer called "Kiss me Kate."
4. If you're upset that Will is off the market this poster is for you.
5. Enjoy a slice of the big day from Papa John's.

Also, if you want the recipe for Queen Elizabeth's scones (a perfect addition to your royal wedding viewing party) be sure to visit the PS after party here: http://projectsoireeafterparty.tumblr.com/

F is for: Floral

It's true what they say, April showers bring May flowers. Floral prints are romantic and sweet and can be found on almost anything right now. This spring flowers are cropping up on dresses, handbags, scarfs, and shoes. Get this trend before it grows away.

What I'm Reading Now: My Father's Daughter

You may know her as an Oscar winning actress, Holly Holiday on Glee, or an avid blogger at GOOP but Gwyneth Paltrow is also an amazing cook. Her new cookbook My Father's Daughter features 150 family friendly recipes with a focus on healthy ingredients that will leave anyone satisfied. Fab 5: Uses for Peeps

It's that time of year again where the store shelves are stocked with one of my favorite Easter treats. But what's the fun in just eating them when you can make them into a festive centerpiece, a delicious s'more, colorful artwork, a fun Easter wreth, or a creative window display. Enjoy your Easter weekend everyone!

Earth Week 2011

Did you know this week is Earth Week? There are so many fun opportunities to get involved this week here in Chicago to do your part in making our world a better place. Here are some ideas to get your green on:

1. Eat a cupcake and help plant a tree. Head on over to Sprinkles Cupcakes and purchase a special Earth Day Vanilla cupcake from April 18-22 and 100% of the proceeds will benefit Chicago Gateway Green.

2. Enjoy a free brewed coffee or tea at Starbucks on Earth Day (April 22) if you bring in a reusable mug. Don't worry if you don't own a reusable mug because Starbucks is also selling them for 20% off.  Or if you don't want to buy a new cup stick around and drink your coffee in a "for-here" cup and Starbucks will pick up the tab.

3. Lowe's is celebrating Earth Day on April 23 by teaming up with Keep America Beautiful and giving away a million trees. Find a store near you and get planting.

What I'm Reading Now: The 5 Book

Do you know where you want to be in five years? I picked up The 5 Book a couple years ago to help me answer that question and decided to pick it up again to track my progress. I'm slowly checking things off and continually working with the ideas in the book. I only have three years left to make some of my dreams a reality.

If you're looking for a great gift for graduates look no further. Watch the video below for a creative explanation of the book.

Fab 5: Nail Polish Colors

Nail polish and I go hand in hand (literally). I love that nail polish can give any outfit a little edge or pop of color without being too extreme or too expensive. It truly is the best accessory for every season. Here are my favorite colors:
1.2.

3.4.

5.

1. I'm loving Essie's Mint Candy Apple right now. It's the perfect color for spring and it gives any outfit a perfect pop of color.
2. Essie's Russian Roulette is my all time favorite classic red.
3. OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark is the best dark purple color for fingers or toes.

D is for: Denim

Denim is a staple for any season, but this season it's all about the wide leg. The bell bottom is back everyone, so dig through your closet for those pairs that you never thought you would wear again. I'm loving the trouser look seen below which is a great option for work. I also love Emily's style from Cupcakes and Cashmere this week.

What I'm Reading Now: Italian Touch

I received the perfect coffee table book from the fashion show lunch last week and just started paging through it. Italian Touch is a collaboration between Donatella Sartorino (an Italian fashion and style journalist) and TOD'S that showcases the true Italian life. Following Italians of all ages throughout Italy the book does a great job presenting Italian culture and style that transcends time. I'm longing for a return trip to Italy after this book, but for now I'll sip my cappuccino and dream...

Fab 5: Chicago Cupcakes

I've developed a serious crush on cupcakes ever since I moved to Chicago, and I think I've tried just about every cupcake here in the city (no joke). That being said, here are my absolute favorite Chicago cupcakes for you to try:
1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

1. Sprinkles cupcakes may have started in Beverly Hills, but they are a huge hit here in the midwest. Best known for their moist red velvet cupcake with the signature red dot sprinkle they make it irresistible to have just one. My pick is the black and white cupcake with a delicious dark chocolate cake and creamy vanilla frosting.

2. If you're serious about your frosting head over to Sugar Bliss. The pure chocolate cupcake is my favorite with a seriously rich chocolate cake and yummy frosting. They also make cute bite sized cupcakes if your waistline needs a break.

3. Who wouldn't love to sit on a swing and eat a cupcake? At Molly's Cupcakes you can do both. The cake and frosting are both to die for, and what's great is that you can test your creative skills by creating your own cupcake. After it's made you can visit the sprinkle station and dress it up since no cupcake is complete without sprinkles on top.

4. The Cupcake Counter does cupcakes right. The small bakery, located in the loop, is like finding a diamond in the rough. You won't be disappointed with the freshness of these cupcakes and the perfect sweetness of the frosting.

5. Yes the picture is correct. They actually have a cupcake size chart at Crumbs. Whether you're looking for a little pick-me-up or to replace a meal, Crumbs has you covered. Amazingly tasty cupcakes with smooth frosting will leave you completely satisfied. My fav is the carrot cake cupcake.

Ladies Who Lunch

What could be better than a fashion show during lunch? Today I will be lunching at Balsan in the gorgeous Elysian Hotel and celebrating a spring fashion show. Balsan is known for their delicious sophisticated European menu built around fresh, local ingredients. As for the fashion, Derek Lam (the Creative Director for Tod's) will be showcasing the must have items for spring. Food and fashion is the perfect combination.

C is for: Color Blocking

The color block trend has been spotted all over the runways this season. It's a perfect trend that can be incorporated as a simple statement or a bold addition to your spring wardrobe. Take advantage of the bright colors and don't be afraid to wear more than one. This trend isn't going away anytime soon.

You can find a similar look with these picks:
This Urban Outfitters shirt plays up the color block trend in a perfect silhouette for spring.
A whimsical color block blouse from Topshop is a great staple for work or happy hour with your girlfriends.
